Conditioned to People Please

For most of my life, I considered myself a people pleaser. I wanted to fit in, be liked, and avoid conflict, so agreeing with others often felt easier than speaking up for myself. Over time, I realized that constantly putting others first was affecting my self-esteem and preventing me from living authentically. Through self-reflection, personal growth, and learning to establish healthier boundaries, I am beginning to value my own voice and make choices that bring me genuine happiness rather than simply seeking approval from others.

Conditioned to People Please

The majority of my life I have been a people pleaser, it’s not right but that is just the way I

was. I wanted to fit in and be part of something, so the best way I thought was to just go

along with what they had to say and they would like me. It started at a young age and that

has been something I have struggled with, it’s just so easy to cave in and say yes, it also

prevents fights most of the time. I do not like confrontations because most of the time even

before it starts I feel like I lost the battle, so the easy route is to just do what they like. I

also listen to the song called Fat Funny Friend by Maddie Zahm, which basically

summarizes a lot of the reasons I have also become a people pleaser. I can say that I really

struggled more growing up and already having bad self-esteem does not help, but I am pretty

sure others can also agree with my feelings. Growing up to become the person I am now I

would say I have built boundaries and am trying to stand up more for my wishes and be

more happy.
